More speakers announced for Play 2021 conference
More speakers have been confirmed for Play 2021, the new conference on children, play and space to be held at the University of Birmingham on 7-8 July. They are: -
Prof. Alison Stenning, Professor of Social & Economic Geography at the Newcastle University
Dr. Matluba Khan, Lecturer in Urban Design at the University of Cardiff; and
Natalia Krysiak, Architect, Urban Designer and Researcher from Sydney, Australia.
Professor Stenning’s recent research ‘focuses around how "playing out" shapes residents’ attachments, material and emotional, to their streets and the people on them, and how play has the potential to challenge the erosion of relationships in everyday places’. Among her published works, she is the co-author of Beyond active travel: children, play and community on streets during and after the coronavirus lockdown (2020)
Dr Khan‘s research interests ‘lie in the intersection of architecture, urban design and human geography … the relationship between built environment design and people’s behaviour, health and well-being. Her published work includes, as co-author, Place, pedagogy and play: participation, design and research with children. (2020).
Natalia Krysiak is a practising architect and founder of Cities for Play. She ‘specialises in the design of child-oriented environments (and is) a passionate advocate for playful cities and spaces, engaging in placemaking and research initiatives around the world’. She is the author of Designing Child-Friendly High-Density Neighbourhoods Transforming our cities for the health, wellbeing and happiness of children (2020).
More plenary speakers for Play 2021 will be announced soon. Submissions for paper presentations and workshops for parallel sessions is still open, here.
